Call for artistic positions

In the context of the festival "Kunstlokal" we invite artistic positions to play the public space in the Zurich Oberland. Based on the guideline - "Moving Collections" we would like to see a content-related examination of the local museums, their collections or the local environment. Various forms of expression such as sculptures, installations, workshops, performances or readings can emerge. Likewise, we welcome participatory works with local communities or audiences. During the festival, the participating museums and cultural centers become places of activation, reflection and play.

All museums and cultural centers have an individual location and historical background. Their diversity and their location in the Zurich Oberland open up a wide range of topics that can be addressed:

- the local history and identities of the Zurich Oberland
- economic processes and their effects
(ex. Agriculture, industrialization and digitalization)
- emergence and production of cultural heritage
(ex. collection practices and archiving processes)

requirements

Works will be exhibited temporarily during the festival period and should be present throughout the festival - depending on the work, this can be discussed individually.

Locations are outdoors and works are exposed to late summer and autumn weather. The material realization has to beconsidered accordingly. Furthermore, the works are located in the context of public space and must beable to withstandvarious forms ofinteraction inthe case of an installation or construction.

The participants are responsible for the delivery and return of their own works.

Project submission

The project submission includes a short description or sketch of the concept and a CV with examples of previous projects, which should be submitted by e-mail (PDF). The concept can already have a specific reference to a particular place, museum or cultural center or provide a general idea. We are open to ideas that are in the initial stages of conception, which we will develop in a collaborative process-oriented discussion.

The project entries are then selected by a jury. This consists of Jacqueline Falk; Head of Culture and Society Zürcher Oberland, Peter Stohler; art historian, Werner Casty; Wetzikon artist, Kim Anni Bassen; curator of Dietikon Projektraum & a member of the ajour association.

All artists included in the festival program will receive an honorarium of 2000 CHF each, which includes production and performance costs as well as travel expenses.
PARTICIPATING INSTITUTIONS

Each local museum and cultural center participating in the festival has its own historical context and social environment within its community and region. Participating artist:s have the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with spaces that reflect both the past and visions for the future.

The Museum Wetzikon creates connections between local culture, early times to the industrial age of the region, while the Museum am Pfäffikersee brings history to life in a former fisherman's house. The Sewing Machine Museum, the Dinosaur Museum and the KMM were founded by passionate private collectors. The Neuthal Museum is one of the largest textile industry museums in Switzerland and presents production processes with original machines. The history of the castle museum and the town of Grüningen goes back to the Middle Ages and is today a center of local cultural production. The Schönau area in Wetzikon has been transformed from a textile factory into a studio building for artists, architects and designers, and the Zeughaus area in Uster has also become a place for artists and cultural workers with studio and exhibition spaces.
